Biografía
William Johnston es evidentemente un nombre inglés, pero quien lo posee es un poeta uruguayo que nació en Montevideo, Uruguay en 1967.
Su primer libro es de 1994 con el título Un Jarrón Chino (Editorial el Pez Volador, Montevideo, Uruguay). En 1995 recibe el Segundo premio nacional de poesía por su libro Las Siete Colinas. En 1998 recibe el Primer premio nacional de poesía por su libro La Estación de las Bellas Furias (Editorial Verdehalago, México). En 1999 recibe el Primer premio Nacional de poesía por su libro édito Los Fragmentos Dispersos (Editorial El Pez Volador, México) que reúne su obra édita hasta la fecha. En el año 2003 recibe el Primer premio nacional de poesía por su libro El Viento Detrás del Bosque y se recibe de doctor en letras por la universidad nacional autónoma de México con una tesis sobre la poesía de Olga Orozco. En el año 2006 recibe el Premio de la Intendencia Municipal de Montevideo por su libro Leve Sombra (Editorial Hermes Criollo, Montevideo, Uruguay). En el 2008 recibe el Premio nacional de poesía por su libro Diálogo Final (Ediciones Mafia Rosa, México, 2011). En el año 2011 regresa a México. Publica en el año 2014 su libro Alaska (Colectivo Semilla, Bahía Blanca, Argentina) y sus tres novelas bajo el título No acaricies un perro ciego (Editorial Terracota, México, 2014). El año 2017 recibe su Premio Nacional de Letras rubro poesía en dos categorías: édito por el libro Intemperie (Botella al Mar Ediciones, Punta del Este, Uruguay) publicado en el 2015 y en inédito por el libro Paisaje (Yagurú, Montevideo 2018). En 2018 fue Premio Nacional de Letras en el rubro poesía, categoría poesía inédita por El trigal del sueño (La Coqueta, Montevideo, 2019) En 2021 fue Primer Premio Nacional de Letras en rubro poesía categoría édito por Visita Guiada (Solazul Ediciones).

Biography
William Johnston is obviously an English name, but who owns it is a Uruguayan poet who was born in Montevideo, Uruguay in 1967.
His first book is from 1994 with the title Un Jarrón Chino (Editorial el Pez Volador, Montevideo, Uruguay). In 1995 he received the Second National Poetry Prize for his book Las Siete Colinas.
